Newsletter note from the Executive Director

Hello, Greensprings family,

Forty years ago, this began very simply: three toddlers, a small room, and one mother determined to find a school worthy of her child. That personal search became a shared mission. We didn’t set out to be the biggest; we set out to be faithful—faithful to each child, each lesson, each act of service. And by God’s grace, a classroom became a community.

What has held us together through power cuts, flooded corridors, tough economies, and growth spurts? Our heartbeat has never changed: “In Love Serve One Another.” It’s not a slogan on a wall; it’s our daily practice. It looks like teachers staying a little longer because a child needs reassurance. It looks like support staff opening gates before dawn so learning can start on time. It looks like parents choosing partnership over panic, and students cheering one another on.

I’m especially proud of how we have stood for the Nigerian child in all their brilliance and diversity. From our mainstream classrooms to Anthos House, we’ve said—consistently—that excellence must include everyone. When a child is truly seen, supported, and stretched, confidence rises and academics follow.

Four decades have taught me a few things I hold dear:

  • Character and academics walk hand in hand. When children learn courage, kindness, and discipline, results take care of themselves.
  • Partnership multiplies impact. School works best when home and classroom pull in the same direction.
  • Grace and resilience matter. Setbacks become stepping stones when we meet them together.

As we step into the next season, my invitation is simple and strong: let’s carry the Greensprings spirit wherever we go. Greet every child like they matter—because they do. Teach as if you are lighting a path someone will walk for life. Lead with service, whether you hold a broom, a whiteboard marker, or a board agenda.

If each of us takes a piece of Greensprings into our homes, workplaces, and neighbourhoods, the next 40 years will be brighter than the first. Not because of buildings or headlines, but because of thousands of Nigerian children—confident, compassionate, and ready to build, heal, and lead.

Thank you for writing this story with me—teachers, staff, parents, students, and alumni. Let’s keep serving. Let’s keep learning. Let’s keep lifting the Nigerian child.

With gratitude and renewed energy,

Lai Koiki
Executive Director
